  1. dump lentils into large pot, rinse lentil several times in running water. Lentils can have dirt on them and mixed with stones. sort to be sure
  2. add water, onions, carrots, celery, pepper and cumin to lentils in the pot. DO NOT ADD ANY SALT
  3. bring water to a boil with the lid off
  4. when the water boils place lid tilted slightly, turn heat to low
  5. 20-25 mins check if lentils are soft. when soft add salt to taste. eat just like that or add ground beef or turkey, hot dogs or sausage. enjoy with rice, cous cous.
Recipe Notes

double the water and make soup. Kick it up a notch and add chyanne or jalepano.
